We are excited to be leading both building level and district level geothermal planning and design and leveraging geothermal systems to help our clients meet sustainability and carbon reduction goals.
We are open to full-remote and hybrid schedules for this position. This position can be based out of any CDM Smith U.S. based office.
As a member of our Infrastructure and Services Group you would contribute to CDM Smith's mission by:

• 
  With high-level goals provided, leads teams to create engineering designs including: geothermal systems master planning & studies; conceptual and basis of design technical documents; analyzing horizontal and vertical geothermal bore field systems; detailed design of geothermal heating and cooling systems for sustainability/energy efficiency/renewable energy/green buildings focused projects.

  Designs systems of moderate to high complexity as necessary to meet client requirements. Reviews draft designs for compliance with federal, state and local regulations and signs off on completed designs. Ensures that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs.

  Collaborating with sales staff to create proposals in response to current and potential client requests for proposal (RFPs). Reviewing draft proposals for adherence to firm, industry, state, local and federal regulations, and best practices.

  Meeting with current and potential future clients to review their current and future design needs.
  
  
• 
  Perform site assessments and studies, as needed to ensure designs are aligned with industry standards and local requirements.
  
  
• 
  Attending conferences, symposia, etc. to improve the visibility of the firm's products and services in collaboration with applicable sales staff.
  
  
• 
  Acts as the primary point of contact for external client and related industry contact. Collaborates with clients and government officials to clarify technical questions provides updates to project management as necessary.

  Providing technical guidance and training to more junior staff. Mentoring more junior staff and developing them for future growth within the discipline and firm. May supervise the work of junior engineers on project work.

    Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Architectural or Chemical Engineering, or in Engineering Technology or related discipline. Professional engineering (PE) license.

    12 years of related experience.

    Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.

    Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
    
    
    Preferred Qualifications:
    
    • 
      
    • 
      Knowledge of governmental and utility incentive programs for sustainable heating and cooling (e.g., NYSERDA - New York State Energy and Research Development Authority) preferred.
      
      
    • 
      Experience developing Building Heating and Cooling Load Modeling & Life Cycle Cost Analysis to support design development and alternatives analysis preferred.
      
      
    • 
      AEE Certified GeoExchange Designer preferred.
      
      
    • 
      IGSHPA Certified Geothermal Inspector preferred.

        Advanced Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices.
