deliver. Position Summary: Bechtel is seeking a Senior Civil
Engineerto join the CSA department within the Manufacturing and
Technology Business Unit (M&T). The prime roles and
responsibilities include: Serves as lead or area lead on assigned
project to develop an area from conceptual phase to EPC phase.
Plans and conducts independent work within M&T to support all
business lines (Semiconductor, Electric Vehicle, Battery, and Data
Center) requiring judgment in evaluation, selection, application
and adaption of design on a project. Knows applicable industry
standards and codes, accepted design practices and quality
standards for a global business unit. Job Dimensions: A.
Supervision Received
- Performs most assignments independently with instructions as to
the general results expected.Receives technical guidance from
Engineering Specialists or Supervisors on unusual or complex
problems and supervisory approval on proposed project plans.
B.Supervision Exercised
- Provides operational direction and technical guidance to
subordinate engineer, designer and detailer personnel as directed.
C.Contacts
- Establishes and maintains communication with design and
engineering supervisors in charge of related disciplines and with
administrative personnel within the group or project.Consults with
suppliers, module yards, design and construction subcontractors,
technical specialists, other disciplines/functions and client
representatives as directed to provide and receive technical
information andto ensure the coordination of the work within the
project or assignment and compliance with Bechtel/client
requirements. Responsibilities:
- Responsible for assigned activities and deliverables within an
engineering or design discipline on the projects.
- Applies broad knowledge of civil engineering principles and
practices to project engineering in the preparation of designs and
deliverables.
- Prepares civil site development design calculations and
drawings, detailed 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) design
models and construction drawings.
- Prepares bulk material quantity takeoffs applicable to the
discipline.
- Makes decisions concerning problems within the discipline on
the project.
- Plans, coordinates or prepares work specifications, technical
bid evaluations and award recommendations for subcontracts or
material requisitions associated with civil site development.
- Coordinates engineering efforts in assigned areas between Civil
Engineering and other engineering disciplines, construction,
clients, suppliers, and contractors.
- Reviews civil site development deliverables and technical
documentation produced by suppliers and subcontractor.
- Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies,
designs, reports or proposals associated with civil site
development.
- Performs or assists in the performance of problem analysis and
original design associated with civil site development.
- Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of cost estimates,
quantity take-offs and staffing requirements for proposals,
forecasts and change orders associated with civil site
development.
- Represents the discipline on the project and with the client as
directed to resolve technical questions.
- Coordinates and interfaces as directed with the day-to-day
technical work of discipline engineers, specialists, designers and
detailers.
- Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions
to upper management.
- Facilitates technical discussions with third parties (client,
suppliers, regulators).
- Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates
and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and
budget, and manages implementation and performance
accordingly.
- Mentors engineers, designers and drafters by providing
appropriate on-the-job training for their professional
development.

empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction. Qualifications and
Skills Basic Qualifications:
- Level 1: BS degree in civil engineering from an accredited
university or college (or international equivalent) with minimum 10
years of progressive relevant experience.
- Level 2: BS degree in civil engineering from an accredited
university or college (or international equivalent) with minimum 15
years of progressive relevant experience.
- PE registration in one state or country is required.
- Understanding of industry or regulatory codes and standards and
design criteria pertinent to the Civil Engineering discipline such
as those developed by AASHTO, ACI, ASTM, Asphalt Institute, PCA
etc.
- Prior experience on executing structural works in medium and/or
large EPC projects.
- General knowledge of technical responsibilities of other groups
associated with the total design effort.
- Knowledge of current computer applications for engineering and
design including appropriate knowledge of 2-D and 3-D CADD, and
relevant Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs) to perform
the work. These include Bentley MicroStation, InRoads,
CulvertMaster, FlowMaster, CivilStorm, Intergraph Smart3D or
equivalent applications currently in use in the industry.
- Knowledge of global business unit activities and operations
including business development, legal, procurement, construction,
environmental safety and health (ES&H), and quality
assurance.
- Prior work experience being responsible for the engineering
progress and performance reporting within a project earned value
management system and trending program.
- Previous experience preparing estimated quantities, job hour
estimates, and schedule planning.
- Skill in leading the technical work of less experienced
designers and/or drafters who share in the design effort.
- Demonstrated ability to cope with conflicting deadlines,
frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks.
- Skill in oral and written communication. Preferred
Qualifications:
- PE registration in one state or country.
- Prior work experience and responsibility for the supervision on
a medium or major size project in civil group at Bechtel.
- Experience in coordinating with global execution teams and
offices.
- Prior experience in planning and executing greenfield or
brownfield projects in one or more of the following market
segments:Semiconductor, Electric Vehicle, Battery, or Data Center.
