Job Description and QualificationsAir Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE:APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, has an immediate opportunity for a Segment Marketing Manager. This role will ideally be based at our global headquarters in Allentown, PA, but considerations can be made to have this role based out of a regional Air Products office or from a US-based home office.The Segment Marketing Manager will develop growth strategies for select end markets and drive the execution of marketing and commercial activities supported by go-to market plans that establish a competitive edge and drive profitable growth of our business units across products (gases, equipment, services) and supply modes. This position will primarily focus on the Foods, Medical, and Distributor market segments with additional support for ad hoc business needs.Combining external industry research and analysis with your understanding of the applications for gases and knowledge of our products and offerings in these segments, you will partner with Sales Managers, Commercial Applications Engineers, and Technology Leads to develop and position a portfolio of differentiated offerings. You will guide the execution of tactical plans (product launches, lead generations, awareness programs among others) to reach prospective or existing customers with compelling messages, unique offers, and overall storytelling of Air Products capabilities and value as a solutions provider. Successful segment management also includes customer and price segmentation analysis, campaign performance reviews, and reporting key metrics to leadership. You will also support the business with insight on market dynamics, new applications, emerging growth areas, competitor intelligence, and project viability for capital investment.Primary ResponsibilitiesInitiates, champions, and leads to completion strategic planning for new and emerging segments, as well as finding and exploiting competitive strengths in existing segments, ensuring superior results in the form of new business signings and renewals across all gas products and supply modesApplies market and competitive intelligence, customer insight, industrial gas trend analysis and scenario modeling to lead analytical efforts that provide insight and focus in support of business objectives, including industry structure analysis, customer or price segmentation, fit vs. attractiveness modeling, viability analysis, trends/drivers/leading indicators, forecasts, financial models, and risk/economic viabilityGuides market/customer-centric new product development through the stage gate process; assessing the commercial viability of new offerings, establishing the value proposition, creating the launch strategy, and enabling the sales organization through training and opportunity pipeline developmentDrives impactful entry and sustainable positioning with engaging content, compelling messages, and consistent presence across a variety of campaigns, events, lead generations, and channels (i.e., direct mail, media advertising, digital/social platforms, webinars, trade shows, case study publications, etc.), leading execution, being responsible for the results, and consistently evaluating alignment to business needsLeads external industry engagement by identifying and partnering with industry associations, trade shows and conferences for opportunities to promote our capabilities, present technical papers, and networkPrioritizes and adapts the focus areas within a segment through regular performance analysis, external trend and risk monitoring and pricing or customer segmentation modelingThe ideal candidate thrives on variety, is energized by business growth and innovation, has a customer-centric attitude, seeks to by a storyteller by balancing technical analysis and creativity, and is looking to learn every day.
