Northrop Grumman's Space Systems is seeking a motivated candidate
that will fill the position of Manager Engineer - Navigation and
Controls 2 ( Space craft Guidance) within the Launch Vehicle
business unit located in Chandler, AZ.
GNC is designing and analyzing rocket navigation and control
systems for a mix of DoD, NASA, and commercial customers.
Essential Functions:
The GNC manager will oversee a group of engineers that design,
develop, implement, verify and test algorithms and software and
simulation tools to perform guidance, navigation and control of
missiles, launch vehicles and upper stages during powered and coast
phases of launch, flight, earth orbit, interplanetary cruise and
orbital insertion, as well as during staging events. This group
also contains navigation specialty engineers.
Navigation functions include the statistical processing of measured
data points (e.g. Inertial Measurement Units, GPS, altimeters, etc)
and their substitution into algorithms estimating physical
reality.
Maintenance and development of navigation code.
Guidance functions include the formulation of specific equations to
achieve a desired position, orientation or orbit in space.
Responsible for providing priority guidance, navigation and control
technical contributions for a missile defense targets program.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology,
Engineering or Math) with 9 years of related engineering
experience; OR a Master's degree in STEM with 7 years of related
engineering experience, or a PhD in STEM with 4 years of related
engineering experience
Active DOD Secret Security clearance
Experience with IMUs, GPS receivers and navigation systems
Experience with free inertial navigation, merged navigation and
Kalman filtering
Familiarity with navigation components and algorithms
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with the C++ and Python programming languages
Experience with the Linux Operating System
Active Top Secret Security Clearance
Familiarity with rocket motor propelled vehicle trajectory design
and customer provided requirement analysis in a simulation
environment
Proven experience with autopilot and guidance algorithm design and
actuator subsystems
Salary Range: $123,900 USD - $185,900 USD
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to
base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual
contributions as well as allow employees to share in company
results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be
eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman
