Must have 2 full years of experience to be considered. Travelers
will need to pass a dysrhythmia exam within 48 hours of receiving
the offer, with a maximum of 2 attempts. There will be a Pass/Fail
exam on the first day with an emphasis on sterile field techniques.
Study materials will be provided on the first day. Please ensure
that travelers are up to date on proper sterile techniques.
Description: Unit has 32 beds and ratios of 1:3-4. A Charge Nurse
is present without patient assignments, along with a Clinical
Supervisor in a management role. Patient Care Technicians are
available at a ratio of 1 per every 16 patients. Every other
weekend is required. Scrub color is navy. The telemetry system is
centralized, and RNs must be able to interpret EKGs. There are no
ventilators present on the unit. Hospitalists round during the day
and are on call at night. The Respiratory Team and Pharmacy are
available 24/7. Shifts are scheduled from 7 AM to 7 PM. Floating
may occur to similar or lower acuity units. Floor-specific
orientation consists of 2 days on the floor. Common diagnoses
include post-catheterization lab patients, post-vascular
procedures, and post-day 2 CABG patients. Medications managed
include Amiodarone, Cardene, Nitro, Heparin, and Dobutamine for
titration down only. No pediatrics are admitted; patients must be
15 years old or older. The cancellation policy allows for the
hospital to cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment. The
charting system used is Cerner. This is an acute care nursing
position. Weekend shifts are part of the requirement.
