Job Description:

Certifications: ACLS, BLS (AHA) Must-Have: EKG monitoring skills;
ability to titrate drips Description: Auto-offer based on clinical
prescreen. Dysrhythmia Exam is required 24-48 hours prior to
acceptance of a position. Candidates have a maximum of 2 attempts
to pass the Dysrhythmia Exam. If applicants fail, they will be
restricted from future consideration for 6 months. There is also a
pass/fail simulation lab on the first day of orientation. If
applicants fail, they will be sent home and restricted from future
consideration for 6 months. Candidates must not have been full
time, part time, or PRN with any related facility in the past year.
Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of experience to be
considered. Unit accommodates 30 beds and includes specific
certifications required. Staffing ratios are 1 nurse to 3-4
patients. Nurses on this unit are required to titrate drips for
cardiac medications, heparin, and some diuretics. Charge nurses do
not take patient assignments but also manage the floor. Patient
care technicians are available, with a ratio of 1 per every 15
patients. Nurses must be able to interpret EKGs. Self-scheduling is
allowed with 12-hour shifts from 7 AM to 7 PM. Weekend requirements
include working every other weekend. Holiday requirements include
working 2 major holidays and 2 minor holidays based on contract
dates. No on-call or standby requirements exist unless census
fluctuates. Floating is required to any telemetry floor. Dress code
is navy scrubs. Common diagnoses include congestive heart failure,
fluid overload, shortness of breath, and arrhythmias. The facility
may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment. Charting system
used is Cerner. This position is in an acute care setting.
