Areas of support include academics, special education, finance, IT, facilities, food services, HR, communications and marketing, compliance and construction. The goal of Vertex Education is to be a resource and service to schools that are not able to offer these services in-house. Vertex currently manages 23 schools comprising of more than 23,000 students in 3 states.POSITION OVERVIEW*This position offers a hybrid schedule; working remote two days per week and reporting to the Vertex Education office in Chandler, AZ three days per week*The IT Applications Manager is responsible for the organization's entire Enterprise Application Lifecycle. This includes compiling and understanding business requirements, procuring appropriate applications that satisfy those requirements, and testing, deploying, and continuously improving those applications. This position may also have to sunset applications used by Vertex or Vertex's network of supported schools.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSNote: The essential functions below describe the general requirements of this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties. Incumbents may perform all or most of the primary accountabilities listed below. Specific tasks, responsibilities or competencies may be documented in the incumbent's performance objectives as outlined by the incumbent's immediate supervisor or manager.

  • Responsible for managing 2 product managers and 2 application administrators. One of each will be focused on educational applications (e.g., Schoology, Clever, SIS), while the other will focus on enterprise applications (e.g., Zendesk, Workday)
  • Work with the Senior Director of IT to develop a budget for this team and ensure team priorities are aligned to IT and broader organizational goals
  • Be an accountable leader within IT, participating in regular meetings with other IT leaders and providing general leadership to the department
  • Meet with a wide variety of stakeholders, from school leaders to senior management at Vertex, helping to manage various requests and priorities while communicating what each product's roadmaps, priorities, and timelines are
  • Draft RFPs and hire and manage vendors as needed to implement or consult on advanced application functionality
  • Use agile/scrum methodologies with the team, driving regular sprints, releases, and sprint retrospectives that help the applications, and the individual team members, continuously improve
  • Create schedules and timelines at the task level as needed, with overall accountability at the application level
  • Conduct and implement application risk and risk mitigation assessments
  • Manage project backlog and continuously groom it
  • Ensure up-to-date status on inventory of critical path projects, and that project status and variations from schedule or scope are clear to other IT leadership
  • Work closely with the IT Team and partners to proactively and regularly identify challenges that require operational solutions and root cause analysisSUPERVISORY AND MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY
    • As the IT Applications Manager, it will be important to maintain clear communication with employees of the IT department, ensure work is properly delegated and completed in a timely mannerKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIESEducation, Licensure, or Certification
      • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a technical discipline (e.g., computer science, computer information systems, etc.) or other technical experience to supplement a non-technical Bachelor or Master's degreeWork Experience or Related Experience
        • 2-5 years of application lifecycle management experienceSpecialized Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
          • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal skills.
          • Ability to manage multiple teams of IT professionals.
          • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and timelines.
          • Ability to focus and maintain oneself under high pressure deadlines.
          • Ability to communicate concepts in technology from a low to high level, to both technical and non-technical audiences.
          • Ability to self-educate and a desire to continue to learn new methods and technologies.
          • In-depth understanding of basic and complex networking and equipment usage.BACKGROUND CHECKS
            • The incumbent in this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check
            • Must be able to obtain and hold a valid IDirector Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at all timesPHYSICAL AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
              • Travel is required for this position (up to 50% of the time during the week, no overnight).
              • This position requires the need to lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) on occasion.
              • This position requires standing, sitting, and long periods of concentration which can create muscle strain.
