The Senior Compensation Manager is responsible for leading initiatives to assess and develop enterprise level compensation philosophy, programs, policy, guidelines and standards that support Wells Fargo's business strategy and serve as the framework that compensation programs align to globally. This role is primarily focused on developing enterprise processes for pay structure and governance of various compensation programs.

The individual will be responsible for leading projects and initiatives with a team comprised of direct and indirect reports. The ideal candidate is a proven leader with outstanding strategic and problem solving skills, knowledge about the economics and risk profiles of Wells Fargo s businesses, has demonstrated a proven ability to lead and influence across matrixed teams in a large company, has strong interpersonal skills, and has demonstrated strong results leading a similar function.

This individual will work closely with LOB Compensation, Finance, Risk, and HR leadership across the enterprise to ensure compensation programs enable the business to drive revenue, manage expense, maintain market competitiveness, comply with evolving compensation regulation, and deliver on the team member value proposition. This is a key leadership position with the opportunity to shape programs critical to the Company s success during a period of meaningful change.


  • Lead initiatives for the assessment and on-going development of enterprise compensation structures, practices and programs aligned to strategic business needs and internal and external governance requirements.
  • Develop enterprise pay and job structure design processes and standards to effectively support business objectives and appropriately balance risk.
  • Partner with compensation delivery, technology infrastructure, and compensation control teams to effectively develop program guidance and practices.
  • Contribute to the development of effective training efforts for the compensation function in partnership with the Corporate HR Learning team.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of compensation communications in partnership with the HR Communications team.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with corporate and line of business compensation leaders and relevant Finance, Risk, and HR partners.
  • Manage resources for ongoing project work, and oversee efforts across multiple business and technical groups.

  • Lead your team with integrity and create an environment where your employees feel included, valued, and supported to do work that energizes them.
  • Accomplish management responsibilities which include sourcing and hiring talented employees, providing ongoing coaching and feedback, recognizing and developing employees, identifying and managing risks, and completing daily management tasks.

Salary range is determined by the location of the job.

The salary range displayed below is based on a Full-time 40 hour a week schedule:

IA-West Des Moines: Min: $122,500 Mid: $175,000 Max: $227,500

MN-Minneapolis: Min: $122,500 Mid: $175,000 Max: $227,500

CO-Denver: Min: $122,500 Mid: $175,000 Max: $227,500

TX-San Antonio: Min: $122,500 Mid: $175,000 Max: $227,500

TX-Dallas: Min: $122,500 Mid: $175,000 Max: $227,500

NC-Charlotte: Min: $122,500 Mid: $175,000 Max: $227,500

AZ-Chandler: Min: $122,500 Mid: $175,000 Max: $227,500

GA-Atlanta: Min: $122,500 Mid: $175,000 Max: $227,500

May be considered for a discretionary bonus, Restricted Share Rights or other long-term incentive awards

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of management experience
  • 6+ years of consulting experience in compensation, human resources, accounting, or finance

  • Superior leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate, influence, persuade and manage at all levels both inside and outside of the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to develop enterprise solutions that integrate business needs with broader executive leadership perspective
  • Highly effective strategic forward-thinking capabilities and the ability to engage Business Partners and team members to deliver actionable results
  • In-depth knowledge about compensation practices, experience with compensation design and decisions in the context of business management
  • Demonstrated success leading the design of programs and processes in large, complex organizations
  • Excellent leadership skills; proven ability to positively influence, motivate and direct diverse teams, and quickly gain the trust and confidence of executive leaders
  • Proven ability to successfully plan, implement, and manage organizational change. Seizes opportunities to introduce, facilitate and implement change processes
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex and highly visible, impactful projects. Demonstrated ability to complete projects, tasks and responsibilities in an efficient and effective manner, and to ensure that all deliverables are met and outputs are measured throughout the work cycles, to warrant proper completion of assignments
  • Proven analytical capabilities with ability to oversee, provide direction on, or conduct complex analyses and modeling
  • Able to develop and deliver consistent enterprise programs while addressing varying needs by business unit
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP)
  • General management or consulting experience in compensation, human resources, accounting, finance or other related business area in a large, diversified company
  • In-depth knowledge of financial services industry, including an excellent understanding of the strategic role and impact of Compensation
  • Knowledge of compensation systems, tools, and technology necessary to provide innovative compensation solutions
  • Expertise in compensation best practices
  • Strong understanding of the strategies, market position, and economics/risk profile of Wells Fargo s large, complex businesses and how to design compensation to meet their needs
  • MBA or advanced degree in Business, Analytics, Finance or Human Resources
