Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman Space Systems is currently seeking an experienced Principal / Sr Principal Systems Engineer to serve as Sentinel Program Requirements and Verification Lead Engineer as part of the Systems Engineering Integration & Test team in our Chandler, AZ office. Role Description & Responsibilities:

  • The candidate will serve as a Lead Requirements and Verification Systems Engineer for a small team of engineers (6-8) and will actively participate in a dynamic multi-disciplinary program team. The candidate is expected to provide leadership to the systems engineering effort including direct and in-direct management of engineers with limited oversight from engineering senior leadership personnel in a collaborative environment.
  • The candidate will interface and work collaboratively with the other SEIT leads on the team to ensure the team achieves all program milestones
  • The candidate should be willing to lead or run special projects assigned by the program team and deliver results with minimal oversight.
  • The candidate should possess strong technical problem solving, written and verbal communication skills to generate and document system level launch vehicle requirements, perform vehicle performance assessments and participate in system level verification/data review activities.
  • Regular interface with program management, engineering staff and external customers is expected.
  • The candidate should be willing to occasionally work during odd hours (nights/weekends) and occasionally longer than normal (> 40 hrs/wk) to meet deadlines.
  • The candidate should possess a strong resolve to drive tasks to completion autonomously and possess demonstrated mentoring/training skills.
  • The candidate will be required to travel domestically on a periodic basis. (
  • Creates and manages both original and revised specification/interface definition documents and coordinates document approval through peer review and signature process.
  • Creates and modifies management tracking reports for a variety of systems engineering performance parameters, resource metrics and design margins.
  • Support proposal-writing efforts for Systems Engineering on a project.
  • Provides data and support risk management (identifies potential risk) and trade study processes.
  • Creates changes to Functional/Logical/Physical Model of System Architecture.
  • Technical Resource Budgets and Configuration Control Board participation
  • Manages aspects of system design, analyses, interface verification, testing, minor failure/anomaly resolution or mission operations.
  • Participates in the creation of and manages changes to system or subsystem analytical models.
  • Supports and leads the testing and/or evaluation/validation of one or more components of a system or subsystem analytical model or actual system implementation.
  • Runs existing system or subsystem analytical models and simulations to collect data.
  • Presents and prepares materials for presentation during System Requirement Review, System Functional Review, Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review and System Verification Review.
  • Supports trade studies, system sensitivity studies, design optimization studies, system performance assessments, system design assessments, Operations Analysis work such as mission analysis and timelines and CONOPS development.
  • Supports Flight Test activities in the office and in the field.
  • Performs cost estimates and project planning as a Cost Account Manager (CAM).Basic Qualifications:
    • Principal Requires BS in Engineering with a minimum of 5 years related experience, Master's Degree with 3 years of related experience or PhD with 0 years of experience.
    • Sr Principal Requires BS in Engineering with a minimum of 9 years related experience, master's degree with 7 years of related experience or PhD with 4 years of experience.
    • U.S. Citizenship is required
    • Full Secret clearance is required for this position
    • Ability to travel is required
    • Systems Engineering experience
    • Strong oral and written communication skill Preferred Experience:
      • A strong experienced-based and academic foundation in Systems Engineering fundamentals
      • Experience with Northrop Grumman Space Systems LVBU Systems Engineering standards/guidelines and expectations
      • Experience with external customer interfacing (meetings, presentation, negotiation)
      • System testing and launch operations experience
      • Experience with Agile and Scrum
      • DOORS experience is desired Salary Range: $87,600 USD - $131,400 USD Salary Range 2: $108,600 USD - $163,000 USD Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
