Job Summary
This position assists in the development, support, coordination,
and outreach of a learning support program (Learning Center/Science
Tutoring) and engages in a variety of learning assistance-related
instructional activities. Responsible discipline areas are science
(general chemistry, organic chemistry and/or general biology,
anatomy and physiology, etc.). Must possess deep knowledge of
chemistry and/or biology concepts as well as strategies for working
with diverse backgrounds and abilities (adult learners, students
with special needs, and underprepared students) to develop
analytical/critical thinking skills to promote meaningful
understanding of instructional concepts. Must demonstrate a
commitment to service excellence, innovation, student success,
integrity, and diversity in the performance of job duties.
Essential Functions
60% - Engages in a variety of learning assistance-related
instructional activities; provides basic coordination and oversight
of an assigned program; responds to academic support inquiries and
solves problems in accordance with policies and procedures;
provides guidance to students; designs and develops learning
support materials; plans, conducts research and assists with the
development of curricula, materials, and/or the coordination of
technical and operational aspects of assigned area; promotes and
delivers workshops and presentations; researches information
related to trends and best practices in post-secondary academic
support and assigned disciplines
30% - Assists in the development and implementation of program
guidelines, forms, policies and procedures; develops resources for
and training of part-time student learning facilitators; assists
with the marketing, recruitment and hiring of part-time student
learning facilitators; plans, organizes, assigns, reviews and
evaluates the work of assigned temporary staff; mentors and coaches
student learning facilitators on learning support best practices;
participates in discipline and termination activities of assigned
staff; collects, monitors, reviews and compiles pertinent learning
support and/or assessment data; evaluates, analyzes and summarizes
data-based usage, information and coverage in the centers, conducts
and coordinates orientations and class visits to inform students of
tutoring services and participates in other marketing and
student-outreach events
10% - Serves as a program liaison between student learning
facilitators and the appropriate supervisor providing process and
procedural coordination and support; assists Learning Center
Director with projects and reports; monitors and ensures compliance
with Learning Center policies and procedures, receives inquiries
and provides related program information; creates, updates and
maintains original correspondence, reports, presentations,
handouts, websites, and schedules; organizes, updates and maintains
resources and materials such as textbooks, calculators, and other
supplemental material; performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in
education, business or public administration, or a directly related
field such as Chemistry or Biology and one year of full-time
equivalent experience in researching information, gathering data,
performing preliminary analysis and preparing reports.
OR
Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in
education, business or public administration, or a directly related
field such as Chemistry or Biology and three years of full-time
equivalent experience in researching information, gathering data,
performing preliminary analysis and preparing reports.
OR
High School Diploma/GED and five years of full-time equivalent
experience in researching information, gathering data, performing
preliminary analysis and preparing reports.
Desired Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology or related field and/or
equivalent years of professional science (chemistry or biology)
tutoring or teaching experience.
2. At least Two (2) years' experience providing learning
assistance-related instructional activities, i.e. teaching or
tutoring various levels of chemistry and/or biology (general
chemistry, organic chemistry, and/or general biology, anatomy and
physiology, microbiology, etc.) for a diverse population of
students at all levels of ability in a college or university
Learning/Tutoring Center.
3. Experience with departmental coordination and oversight,
including planning, organizing, and facilitating programs,
initiatives, events, and overseeing the work of others with
explanation as it relates to the position.
4. One (1) or more years professional experience illustrating the
development or implementation of various instructional support
delivery methods, including developing and facilitating training
sessions, workshops and presentations.
5. Experience evaluating, analyzing and summarizing data and
creating/maintaining reports.
6. Experience with technology and software including creating,
developing video tutorials, user guides, reports, and/or workshops
(Preferred software: Online HW, graphing calculator usage, document
editing (MS Office), personnel tracking (HCM), and Learning
Management Systems (Canvas).
Special Working Conditions
May require prolonged periods of sitting, standing, bending,
stooping, lifting up to 20 pound objects and prolonged viewing of
CRT screen.
May be required to work or attend meetings at Williams Campus
periodically. Will be required to work in an area of light noise
levels daily.
Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 8:30 am-5:30 pm, Fridays 9
am-3:30 pm. Work Schedule may vary.
